What Can Different Types of Lip Fillers Do for You?

There are many different dermal filler products on the market, some of which include Restylane, Belotero, and Juvéderm lip fillers. These products fill up wrinkles, making them ideal solutions to plump the lips and give them a fuller, more luscious appearance.

Which lip filler is right for you? At Premier Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa we can help you choose the perfect solution for your cosmetic goals.

What Is Lip Filler?

Lip filler injections are popular for their ability to provide robust, voluminous, natural-looking lips without any serious downtime or recovery required.

The best lip fillers are those made from a substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). Hyaluronic acid is a water-attracting substance that’s naturally produced in the body. When it is added to lip filler products, it takes on a gel-like consistency.

When hyaluronic acid filler is injected into the lips, it adds volume temporarily, creating a fuller-looking mouth. The fact that hyaluronic acid is naturally produced by the body means that injections are safe; no allergy testing is necessary prior to receiving lip augmentation injections with lip fillers.

Why Do People Get Lip Fillers?

The top three reasons why people seek out lip filler treatments include:

  • To smooth away vertical lines that occur on and around the lips
  • To define the line that separates the pink part of the lips from the skin that surrounds it (the vermilion border)
  • To increase the volume and plumpness of one or both lips

Treatments with one or more of the different types of lip fillers are popular for adults of all ages, whether they were born with naturally thin lips or their lips have thinned with age.

Thin lips or lines and wrinkles can also be caused by things like a poor diet, excessive sugar intake, over-exposure to ultraviolet light, excessive exposure to sunlight, and smoking.

Lip filler injections can help improve the appearance of more than just the lips. These products are often used to fill in nasolabial folds, which are commonly known as laugh lines. They are also used to diminish the appearance of marionette lines, which are the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the sides of the chin.

In addition, lip filler injections can be paired with other services and treatments, from adding facial volume and contouring the cheekbones to adding volume at the jawline to smoothing wrinkles in other areas of the face and more.

Types of Lip Fillers

Three popular products that we frequently use as lip filler treatments are Juvéderm, Belotero, and Restylane.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm is an FDA-approved product for lip augmentation. The line includes a few different formulations, each of which is used for different aesthetic purposes. Juvéderm lip fillers are some of the most popular products on the market.

As the lips lose structure and volume with age, wrinkles can become more obvious and the definition of your cupid’s bow can diminish. Lip filler injections with Juvéderm can help reverse that process and fill out the lips for up to 12 months after an injection.

Belotero

Belotero is a dermal filler that helps plump the lips and can be used to diminish the look of wrinkles and fine lines elsewhere as well. Like other dermal lip fillers, it also contains hyaluronic acid.

Belotero is a popular choice for people who want to smooth out and fill in moderate to severe wrinkles and lines around the mouth or on the lips. The hyaluronic acid absorbs into the skin and binds to the naturally occurring water in the tissue around the injection site.

This process adds cushioning as it integrates into the tissues of the lips with its gel-like consistency.

Restylane

Restylane is an FDA-approved product for use in adults over the age of 21, as is the case with other lip fillers. This product adds volume and plumpness to lips and other areas of the face, such as the nasolabial folds.

Restylane is an excellent lip filler that’s also popular for smoothing moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles. Like the other products we offer, this lip filler provides natural-looking results and improves lip definition.

What to Expect During Lip Augmentation Procedures

Before we schedule your appointment for lip filler treatment, we will schedule an initial consultation at our office. During this appointment, we’ll learn about you and your goals for treatment.

If you are taking blood thinners, ibuprofen, or aspirin, you may need to discontinue their use prior to treatment. We will discuss this with you before your treatment.

When your treatment appointment arrives, we’ll make sure that you’re comfortable and answer any additional questions about lip fillers or your procedure. The actual treatment only takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

First, we’ll apply a local numbing agent to the injection sites to make sure you remain comfortable throughout your procedure. Next, we’ll administer the injections, and that’s it!

With no serious recovery time required, you’ll soon enjoy plump, fuller lips for up to 12 months.
