What Kinds of Facelifts Are There?

Facelifts are one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed throughout the world. A facelift can help resolve a variety of age-related changes to your face that include sagging skin around the eyes, mouth, and jawline.

There are several different types of facelifts offered at Premier Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa: the Z-lift, traditional facelift, and mini-facelift. Learn more about each kind below!

The Traditional Facelift

Also known as a rhytidectomy and formal facelift, the traditional facelift is an extensive cosmetic procedure reserved for patients with more advanced signs of aging. A traditional facelift involves the removal of excess loose skin and tightening of the SMAS fascia that covers more in-depth facial muscle groups.

While a traditional facelift can produce significant results like reduced sagging in the cheeks and jawline, it also comes with a longer recovery time than other facelift options. Most patients take anywhere between 8 to 12 weeks to fully recover.

The Z-Lift

The Z-lift is a common procedure at Premier Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa. The Z-lift is typically used on patients with minimal to medium signs of aging.

The Z-lift uses a hidden incision under the hair to access the facial tissue. This makes it the most minimally invasive facelift option. Dr. Yu has developed this technique as a variant of the mini-facelift, which takes only one hour to perform.

This procedure does not involve general anesthesia. Instead, the patient receives local anesthesia.

The Z-lift produces similar results to a traditional facelift because of the same amount of SMASectomy/SMAS lift, but with little to no pain. Since there is significantly less dissection needed, there is no risk of skin compromise or injury to vital facial nerves.

The Z-lift offers remarkable results with a shorter recovery time than a traditional facelift. Patients are able to recover in just a few days, compared to the several weeks it takes to recover from a traditional facelift.

The Mini-Facelift

Much like the traditional facelift, the mini-facelift involves the removal of excess loose skin and tightening the SMAS fascia. The mini-facelift is known to produce more desirable results than the formal facelift because it leaves less swelling, bruising, and scarring.

The mini-facelift is ideal for patients who have minimal to medium signs of aging in their facial skin. For patients with more advanced or extensive aging, the traditional facelift may be a better option, as it works with more areas of the face.
