Introduction to Asian Rhinoplasty

For people with Asian heritage, the nose is commonly a target area for plastic surgery. Asian patients genetically have noses that sit flatter on their face with wider nostrils giving an overall facial impression that doesn’t highlight the nose bridge. Board-certified Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Arthur Yu, is sensitive to these specialized concerns and can address them by performing an Asian Rhinoplasty for Los Angeles and Pasadena patients. He and the staff at Premier Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa in Arcadia strive to give their Asian patients the facial anatomy and proportion that they desire. If you are interested in an Asian Rhinoplasty in the Los Angeles, Pasadena, and surrounding Arcadia area, please continue to read below to learn more about the procedure.

asian rhinoplasty- what

What is an Asian Rhinoplasty?

An Asian Rhinoplasty is similar to a rhinoplasty but done on the nose of a patient who identifies as Asian. Unlike traditional rhinoplasty, Asian rhinoplasty often makes the nose larger and the bridge more prominent.

An Asian rhinoplasty doesn’t target giving the patient a characteristically Caucasian nose, but in fact, aims to enhance a characteristically Asian nose such that it is more noticeable on an attractive facial anatomy.

Quite often, patients might believe that their eyes, cheekbones, and mouth need attention, when it is in effect just the nose, being the central button of the face, that needs the attention. Using an array of specialized Asian rhinoplasty techniques, Dr. Yu will refine the nose to make the rest of the facial anatomy balanced and optimal in proportion.

Asian Rhinoplasty First Step

What’s The First Step?

The first step towards achieving your ideal nose shape through an Asian Rhinoplasty in the Los Angeles, Pasadena, and surrounding Arcadia area is to schedule a consultation with your provider at Premier Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa. During this important consultation, you will have the opportunity to openly discuss your medical history, your aesthetic and functional goals, concerns, and expectations.

Dr. Yu will carefully examine your nose, and your facial anatomy and share various techniques for Asian Rhinoplasty, helping determine the best technique for your case. Once you both have finalized the treatment plan, a Patient Coordinator will help you schedule a surgery date, discuss pricing options, and also share any pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Asian Rhinoplasty Surgery

On the day of your Asian Rhinoplasty surgery, you will be welcomed by Dr. Yu and his friendly staff, your patient plan will be discussed with you to make sure there are no questions and/or concerns and then you will be administered anesthesia by our anesthetist to ensure your comfort during the procedure

Depending on what was discussed, Dr. Yu will use either an artificial implant or a graft of the patient’s tissue to augment your nasal bridge and also alter the shape of the nasal tip.

Nasal Narrowing

Many Asian rhinoplasty patients choose to have nasal narrowing to refine the size and shape of their noses. In particular, your provider can narrow the nasal bridge and/or the nostrils.

  • Nasal bridge — Your nasal bridge can be narrowed for an altered facial fit. This can be achieved by reshaping the cartilage that gives the bridge its shape and by extracting any excess tissue.
  • Nostrils — Dr. Yu can give patients more narrow, closely spaced nostrils by removing a wedge-shaped piece of the nostril and reducing the gap surgically.

In addition to addressing any desires towards characteristically Asian features, Dr. Yu can also perform a nose job to address other concerns such as a hump in the bridge, a crooked nose, and the very common deviated septum that can cause breathing issues. Either way, Dr. Yu’s goal is to offer you the most aesthetically pleasing and functionally optimum nose you can have for your facial anatomy.
