Introduction to Brow Lift

The way our brows sit on our faces defines how soft or harsh our expression is. High brow ridges give a sense of authority that might be the traditional “alpha” personality, whereas a sharper and lower brow might give a softer look. With aging and the effects of gravity, the brows will descend, creating hooding above the eyes, giving the eyes droopy looks. Brow lift surgeries were created to correct these aging problems. Dr. Arthur Yu proudly sees brow lift patients from his Arcadia office in Los Angeles County right outside of Pasadena.

What is a Brow Lift?

A Brow Lift, medically known as a Browplasty, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that lifts your eyebrows and your forehead to reduce wrinkles and fine lines.

The main target of this procedure is to address cumulative effects on the facial anatomy that are associated with aging and stress. This is done by tightening the skin and muscles in the upper facial area that create drooping eyebrows, forehead furrows, and frown lines.

When performing a brow lift, your surgeon will lift your forehead skin, reposition your eyebrow arch to a more elevated and flattering position, and try and eliminate fine lines and forehead wrinkles.

There are a few different techniques for a Brow Lift:

Classic Lift

Also called a hairline incision, this classic lift makes a well-hidden incision along the hairline to lift the upper forehead area. This procedure is ideal for patients who want to lift their eyebrows while shortening the forehead by removing a strip of skin and underlying tissue along the incision.

By shortening the forehead, your hairline will be lowered – which is ideal for those with a high forehead. This procedure lifts everything upwards from your eyebrows, even addressing the shape and symmetry of your brow shape and symmetry.

Coronal Lift

A Coronal brow lift is like the classic lift, except the incision is made further back in the hairline, on the crown of your head. While this method is better at hiding the incision, it also gives you a high forehead which might not be what you desire.

Direct Brow Lift

Sometimes called a mid-forehead Lift or a “Gull Wing” Lift, a direct Brow Lift removes a section of skin and underlying tissue above the eyebrows or in the forehead. This technique is used for patients with severe forehead lines and drooping eyebrows and is also preferred for patients with an extremely thin or balding hairline.

This technique is different in that it pulls the skin and tissue down rather than up, so it is ideal for anyone who wants to avoid a receding hairline or high forehead. This procedure can also address eyebrow shape and asymmetry. Your surgeon will take great care when positioning the scar and fully camouflaging it along your eyebrows.

Endoscopic Lift

The Endoscopic Lift is a very popular technique that only requires five small incisions that are hidden in the hairline, leaving no visible scar.

This procedure can lift everything from the hairline to the eyebrows. It tightens and smoothens the entire forehead while lifting the eyebrow area to “open up” your upper face. Eyebrow shape and asymmetry can also be addressed with this type of lift.

This type of lift may not be ideal for someone with severe brow descent or heavy skin, and may not be as long-lasting a lift as the Classic Lift.

During your consultation, your surgeon will discuss the pros and cons of each technique so that you can determine which option is the best choice.

Brow Lift First Step

What’s The First Step?

If you are looking into a Brow Lift in Arcadia, CA, your first step is to schedule your consultation with Dr. Yu at Premier Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa. During the appointment, Dr. Yu will discuss your medical history, aesthetic goals, and expectations and will examine your face and forehead to determine if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure.

Using the information they collect, Dr. Yu will then create your surgical plan, which will include the techniques best for you, the type and amount of anesthesia, and every other aspect of the procedure. If you are satisfied with the plan, you will meet with our Patient Coordinator to schedule your surgery. You will also be provided with some pre-operative instructions to promote a higher potential of having a smooth surgery and recovery.

What to Expect from a Brow Lift?

On the day of your surgery at Premier Cosmetic Surgery & Medspa in Arcadia, CA, after meeting with your surgeon and going over your procedure one more time, you will be administered anesthesia, so your brow lift procedure is more tolerable.

Once you are sedated, Dr. Yu will begin your surgery using the techniques that were discussed during the consultation.

A Brow Lift will typically take a few hours to perform the procedure, depending on the techniques your surgeon uses and given the complications of your particular procedure.

Brow Lift Recovery

Your Brow Lift will be an outpatient procedure, which means most patients will be able to return home with the help of a family member or friend ideally driving you home.

We tell patients to expect some mild swelling and bruising, which should subside over the coming days. You will be provided post-operative instructions and any pain medications, if necessary, that will help make your recovery as easy and successful as possible.

Patients may shower and wash their hair on the first postoperative day after the drain has been removed. During the first five days after your procedure, you are encouraged to have minimal activity, routinely apply ice to your forehead, and keep your head elevated to reduce the amount of swelling.

We recommend that you take a week off from work and exercise to give yourself time to recover.

As with all surgical procedures, there is some scarring from a brow lift procedure. However, the area of the incisions is all designed such that the scars will be hidden within or at the hairline.
